Girls Pint Out is a non-profit organization that is aimed at uniting and empowering women, with a focus on education, charity, and community building. Jessica (O’Neal) Stevens, who was the GPO Chair and a 2004 Twin Lakes High School graduate, suddenly passed away on October 29, 2019, from complications of metastatic breast cancer. Jess had a strong passion for her own studies in biology and chemistry and was the Lab Manager at IU Health White Memorial for several years.
When asked about this scholarship, Treasurer Lisa Wheeler replied, “Much of GPO is community outreach, so our chapter decided to write a scholarship for STEM students. Jess was excited to be part of creating a local scholarship for students at her own alma mater. We had just started writing it when Jess’s condition worsened. We thought a great way to honor her legacy would be following through with this scholarship and naming it after her. We also have an ongoing scholarship fund for her daughter, Aurora, who was only 18 months old when Jess passed.”
This year GPO members selected Guadalupe Amador to receive a $500 scholarship. In 2020, GPO awarded two $250 scholarships to Max Yoder and Alyssa Rivera.
